Welcome to the ACE Aotearoa e-newsletter
Kia ora tatou

Seasons Greetings to you all! We hope that you are looking forward to a wonderful festive season with family and friends and a relaxing summer break. It has been a tumultuous year for our sector and there are many more challenges ahead but we can be proud of all that we have achieved - especially the work we have done to enrich the lives of our learners.
In our final e-newsletter for 2009 you will find some important dates for your 2010 diary and news from the sector. Our ACE Aotearoa office will close on December 24 and reopen on Monday January 11.

Wellington will host the 2010 ACE Conference and we now have dates and a venue.
The conference will be held at Rutherford House, Victoria University of Wellington's city campus from June 11-13.
The conference theme will be Freedom to Fly - a reminder to us that our sector is:
- innovative, forward-looking and demonstrating best practice in learning and teaching
- confident and enthusiastic about the future
- determined to continue "flying" in spite of setbacks
- part of a movement for social change with a rich history that we are proud of and respect.
A conference brochure and online registration facility will be available early in 2010.
 Hui/Fono 2010, June 9-11
Wellington will also host next year’s Hui/Fono which will take place during the two days prior to the ACE Conference, June 9-11. The venue will be announced soon.
ACE Aotearoa PD - Invitation to apply for 2010 ACE PD Grants

ACE Aotearoa invites all Adult and Community Education regional networks, networks and groups to submit applications to the ACE PD Grants contestable fund, by 1 March 2010. ACE Aotearoa will run one round of applications in 2010.
The PD Grants Fund is part of a larger PD Programme that ACE Aotearoa is administering on behalf of TEC for the sector. The purpose of this Fund is to progress the implementation of the ACE Professional Development Strategy by supporting networks and groups around New Zealand to address their professional development priorities.
For application guidelines, sample applications, and the 2010 report format, please go to the ACE Aotearoa website.
The 2010 application form is not yet available, but will be posted to this website by mid January. We will repeat this invitation in future e-newsletters, but wanted to send out a first invitation as soon as possible.
 Schools’ Workshops
Within the larger PD programme, ACE Aotearoa is organising a series of PD activities focused on schools. These workshops have been designed to build capability in:
- engaging learners who have not traditionally engaged in ACE in the past, especially Maori and Pacific learners
- embedding literacy and numeracy in ACE programmes.
The first activity is a workshop in Wellington 4-5 March 2010. Clusters of schools that have received TEC funding have already been invited and will receive funding support for one person per cluster to attend the workshops. However, there are limited spaces available for others who wish to attend.
Click here to download the document in Word format, or here for a PDF for more information.
Please email Terry Neal at terry@aceaotearoa.org.nz if you are interested in attending or have any questions.
