Nutrition and Physical Activity Programme - January 2012

Breakfast is a building block towards good nutrition. Our aim is to make breakfast the 'must-have' meal of the day and increase the number of kids and whānau eating breakfast every day.

Supermarket advertising and promotions

Supermarket promotions

There will be in-store advertising on trolleys and in the breakfast cereal aisle of Countdown supermarkets for the first two weeks of February (aligning with the back-to-school period and our radio promotions). Along with messaging about the benefits of breakfast and easy breakfast ideas, a competition for grocery vouchers will be promoted.

We see the supermarket as an excellent intervention point as it is the point of purchase and decision making. This is the first time we have used supermarkets as a promotional channel and look forward to letting you know how it goes.

Radio promotions

We are running radio promotions in early February (around the start of the new school year). A summary of promotions and stations is below. Please contact us if you would like more information or would like to be involved.

Mai FM – Whangarei, Auckland, Rotorua and Hawkes Bay

The Mai FM team and celebrity guest will hit the road with their breakfast tour. Each morning Mai FM will set up a table stocked with healthy breakfast food for children to have on their way to school.

One Double X – Whakatane, Opotiki and Kawerau

Breakfasts with local celebrities.

More FM – Gisborne, New Plymouth and Wellington

Back-to-school breakfasts with their 'street crews'.

531 PI – Auckland

Interviews on the language sections with well-known people in the Pacific nutrition sector and then open the lines for questions.

Atiawa Toa FM

Breakfast at the Waiwhetu Marae attended by local celebrities.

Te Hononga Whakaoho Māori – Maori Media Network

Breakfast cook-off involving local schools. Stations will broadcast live from a local school (or bring children into the station) in Kaitaia, Whangarei, Auckland, Whakatane, Rotorua, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay and New Plymouth.
