The event ran over two days and was held at the Otago School of Medicine in Wellington. When I was there, there were 24 people from around the country...

Of interest (Internets - local)

The Blog-every-day-of-June Challenge is kicking off today around New Zealand and more expeditiously across the ditch in Australia. Those of us participating in New Zealand can be found blogging “every day of June” at Diligent Room - http://diligentroom.wordpress.com/, a collaborative blog ‘by Librarians for Librarians’. You may also like to follow our Australasian colleagues throughout this challenge via Libraries Interact, the Australian equivalent of Diligent Room.

Of interest (Internets - wider)

If you read this before you go home for the day on Wednesday, consider participating in an IFLA survey on social media by library and information professionals at www.surveymonkey.com/IFLAsocialmedia.

“Social media has become a hugely important force in the world, and the historic events in recent months have proven how integral they are to how we engage, learn, and communicate in 2011.

In an effort to learn more about how librarians, library workers, library students, and library associations use social media, the Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression http://www.ifla.org/faife committee of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions http://www.ifla.org has developed a short survey on these topics. Our hope is that the results will allow us to communicate better with those in the worldwide library community - using the most effective tools at our disposal. We're also very interested in those who DON'T use certain social media, and why they don't".

And now for something really beautiful and poetic (I thought) that came across my view last week. A series of illustrations that depict a day in the life of the San Francisco Public Library. [Thank you Justin]

LibraryLaughs (a renaming of “a Final Giggle”)

I like alliteration. Shoot me.

One of this week’s Librarylaugh is from Sean. A cute image that makes you think about the importance of grammatically correct signage...

I was tempted to put this next one under “of interest (internets - wider)” however, it is a laugh and should be taken as that. It’s quite funny though.
